DIED

On the 30th ult. At the residence of her son-in-law, John H. Fleming, Esq., in Independence Township, Ann Raub aged 93 years, 1 month and twelve days, relict of Michael Raub, deceased.
The deceased, notwithstanding her unusual longevity, seemed to retain her faculties, with a remarkable degree of brilliancy to the last, with the exception of her eye sight, of which she was deprived for the last nine months of her life.
She delighted in conversing on topics connected with the American Revolution, with which war she was fully conversant, and in which her husband was an actor. The years of her widowhood were about 17; and during that time, many were her longings that it might be her Heavenly Father's will to take her to Himself; for, when her companion was taken, earth had no longer any attractions for her.
But, notwithstanding she was bereft of a companion, she was not left comfortless. Her affectionate daughter, Mrs. Fleming, was peculiarly her comfort and consolation in her old age. Mrs. Fleming welcomed her mother to her own home; and there, by night and day, with daughter-like devotion for 13 years, she ministered to that mother's happiness-bathing with tenderness her fevered brow, in sickness, wiping away with gentle hand, her tears of sorrow, and finally, smoothing the pillow on which she breathed her last.
The deceased was for 50 years a member of the Presbyterian Church, and died in the full hope of a glorious immortality.
“Her mind was tranquil and serene;
No terrors in her looks were seen;
Her Savior's smile dispelled the gloom,
And smoothed her passage to the tomb.”

Ann (Anna) Raub was the daughter of Wilhelm and Ester Kuhl.

Ult.: ultimo; in the past month. Hence, Anna Kuhl Raub died August 30, 1854. Her age was 93 years, 1 month and 12 days, which would put her birth date at July 18, 1761.
