John married Lydia Read, daughter of Aaron Read and Mary Fortune, on 7 Feb 1829.¹⁴² (Lydia Read was born on 2 Jan 1808 ¹⁴².)

The wedding was performed by Rev. Pharoh A. Ogden of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Rev. Ogden was pastor of the Mt. Bethel M.E. Church in Mansfield Township, and of a M.E. church in Independence Township.
