He served in the Civil war in Company D, 203rd Pennsylvania Volunteers. At
the battle of Fort Fisher, on 15 January 1865, he was in charge of the
fort and was seriously disabled when a portion of the stockade wall fell
on him after having been hit by an enemy shell. He was discharged, after
having served only eleven months, at Raleigh, North Carolina.
He was a former railroad employee and lived in Binghamton, New York.
